Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul, President of Prince of Songkla University, and Prof. Dr. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities on 25 April 2017 at Al Gudaibiya Palace, Manama. The signing ceremony was chaired by General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, and by HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain, on the occasion of the visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain by the Prime Minister of Thailand. The objective of this visiting trip was to reaffirm the close relationship between the two nations on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The signed educational cooperation agreement opens the way for future mutual beneficial academic collaborations, such as staff and student exchange, joint research, joint degrees and joint conferences. As a pilot program, the UoB College of Arts and PSU’s College of Islamic Studies plan to have student exchange in the fields of Islamic Banking and Finance and Islamic studies.

Prince of Songkla University has started cooperation with educational institutions and organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2009, when the university humbly conferred an Honorary Doctorate degree to HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain. On that occasion, HRH graciously made a generous donation to support the university's charitable activities. The donation was used to fund PSU’s Saplings Scholarship Project, scholarships for underprivileged students, graduate thesis scholarships, and to support cooperation with universities in Bahrain.

Furthermore, the administrators of Prince of Songkla University visited the Kingdom of Bahrain three times, and discussed cooperation on various activities and technical assistance with Bahraini educational institutions, including student and staff exchange, medical and public health partnerships, while also promoting PSU International Programs in the fields of Business, Digital Media, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) along with PSU summer courses.
