The PSU International Affairs Office has created an ambitious project called “Grow Global”, to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and become global citizens through a variety of international events and activities held on PSU campuses throughout the year 2020.

The first series of events under the Grow Global project were held from 20 to 22 January 2020 at the student activity building on Hat Yai Campus. Chinese Week celebrations started the event on the first day, with Asst. Prof. Supote Kovitaya, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Affairs, opening the event, followed by Confucius Institute Director Mr. Sun Zhong Hui giving a Chinese New Year blessing. A Chinese singing contest marked the highlight of the evening, where seven talented contestants competed for cash prizes. The theme returned on the third day with a Chinese costume contest, where aspiring costume designers and models showed their artistic talent. Chinese cultural games, presentations and activities completed the events of the two days.

On the 21st, the official kick-off event for the Grow Global project was opened by PSU President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub with an inspirational speech. The event was made special by the participation of two guests of honor, Mr. Nasir Mat Isa, Consul General of Malaysia in Songkhla, and Mr. Fachry Sulaiman, Consul General of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla. International games and activities played a central role, including award-winning student projects, a travel-abroad photography contest, dance performances by the PSU Dance Club, and an informative presentation by a Fulbright Global UGRAD scholarship recipient.  In addition, an online quiz gathered considerable interest, with over a hundred participants competing for two prizes of two international tickets by Air Asia.

The most popular attraction of the day was a talk show by Mr. Kanathip “Loukgolf” Sunthornrak, in which the celebrity highlighted the role of self-motivation in learning a foreign language, and shared the secrets of effective language teaching and learning with a captivated student audience.
