On 21 February 2022, the PSU Halal Institute organized an informational session on the first graduating class of the Halal Business System Management Course for academic year 2021. The event was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, PSU President, while Asst. Prof. Dr. Asman Taeali, Director of the PSU Halal Institute, delivered a report speech together with Mr. Damrong Puttan. The Halal Institute Committee, representatives from relevant agencies, teachers, students, staff and media agencies attended the event at the Alfahad Hotel in Hat Yai.
In his opening speech, the PSU President revealed that the institution realizes the importance of developing Halal manpower, giving full support to such management courses in order to create careers and build confidence in the country's Halal certification system. The first batch of graduates in this non-degree Halal Business Management course will be knowledgeable professionals, capable to give expert advice on Halal matters effectively in the near future, Dr. Niwat explained.
The PSU Halal Institute Director said that the Institute has partnered with the Office of the Islamic Committee of Samut Prakan Province in order to create a non-degree program in Halal System Management. The first and only university-level course of its kind in Thailand, the program consists of four months of intensive activities and learning to enhance the competence of manpower in Halal food business. Participants are expected to gain knowledge and understanding of Halal businesses in a professional system, and successful graduates will be able to manage, control, inspect, and supervise Halal matters in the industry, alongside attaining proficiency of various document management systems related to Halal certification. Course graduates can also pursue and maintain established Halal standards effectively, Dr. Asman said.
Since the first enrollment of students for the January-March 2021 period, a total of 36 students have been participating in the novel course. The program starts with a three-month session focusing on theoretical foundations, followed by a one-month practical training session at the Samut Prakan Islamic Committee. At the time of writing, 29 students have completed the entire program, some of whom became employed immediately after finishing the course.
