Dr. Kenneth Holland, Executive Director of the Center for International Development, and Dr. Julie Holland, Evaluation Systems Expert, from Ball State University, USA, provided training in international office management to Dr. Aye Thandar Htay, Director of the International Relations at University of Mandalay, Myanmar, and to PSU International Affairs Office staff, from March 30 – April 3, 2015.
The five-day program was arranged at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus. Attendees learned about the importance of networking, and got hands-on experience in developing an internationalization plan. They have also practiced facilitating programs for students to study abroad, along with providing opportunities for staff to teach, conduct research or participate in conferences abroad. Finally, the American instructors presented practical advice on recruiting international students.
A particular strength of the program was its inclusiveness and interactive nature. The instructors actively engaged the audience in the discussion and provided ample opportunities for participation, for a truly feedback-driven dynamic event. Each day’s training included hands-on experience designed to put the presented theories into practice.
This training program was a resounding success, as it increased the crucial networking and internationalization skills of International Affairs officers. In addition, it emphasized the importance of teamwork and allowed attending officers from Myanmar and all five PSU campuses to exchange experiences and work together as a group.
